The Top Baby Names of 2019 Were Just Released

It’s always fascinating to see how the name you’ve picked out for your little one stacks up against what others have chosen to name their baby. Do other people love the name as much as you do, or is it a little more rare?

The Social Security Administration has released their annual list of the top baby names of 2019 based on government data, and it’s pretty fascinating. Once again, Liam and Emma are the most popular baby names in the country — after topping the list in 2018, too. In fact, the top four names for both boys and girls are identical to last year’s list.

Still, there are a few surprises in the mix. Harper cracked the top 10 for girl names again for the first time since 2016 after hovering just below it in recent years. Lucas also made its top 10 debut to take the number eight spot for boys, while Jacob fell to number 13 from number 10.

Overall, more traditional names like William, James and Benjamin are popular for boys. For girls, names that end in –a are especially popular, with seven of the top 10 ending this way.
